Analysis

Head-to-head record 2:0

Italian veteran Filipo Volandri will play Daniel Koellerer of Austria for the third time in his career. Italian player is a defensive baseliner. His groundstrokes, especially on the forehand side, are usually well placed. His speed and agility allow him to catch the balls practically anywhere in the court. As defensive baseliners are, he used to make a small number of unforced errors and is a consistent player. In addition, he has a wide array of passing shots including the slice backhand passing shot, rarely used in modern tennis. His game is well suited to dirt and we think he has the chance against Austrian today. Of course, he remembers much better times but he was impressive in qualifiers and even if he is 0-2 don against Koellerer, we think he is capable to succeed today. Austrian player achieved his career-high ranking of no.57 in September, 2009 but he is still just an average player in our eyes and will probably never be a world-beater. He is a solid clay-courter but he shouldn’t be such a big favourite against the former World no.25. Anything above 2.2 is worth taking for us.
