Analysis

Head-to-head record 0:0

Ekaterina Makarova of Russia will play Gisela Dulko of Argentina in the first round of US Open tournament.

Dulko is an experienced player who reached her career-high singles ranking of World No. 26 in 2005. Gisela’s latest results aren´t brilliant and her best times are probably over. She lost to Schnyder in Cincinnati (4-6, 0-6), to Niculescu (6-2, 1-6, 3-6) in qualies of Toronto tournament and to Vesnina (6-7, 2-6) in New Haven. She is a typical clay court player who shouldn’t feel best here on Flushing Meadows fast surface.

Ekaterina Makarova reached her career high ranking of World No. 35 in May 2009. She is a left handed Russian prospect, she was in 2 WTA tournament finals this year (Estoril and Fes). She isn’t playing in a excellent shape (lost in first rounds of Cincinnati, Toronto and New Haven tournaments), but she can plays on hardcourts (she defeated Petrova in Miami).

She should be bigger favourite today. Odds at this level are worth trying for us.
