Analysis

Head-to-head record 0:0

Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic will play Croatian youngster Donna Vekic in the first round. Vekic is is well known among tennis fans for her aggressive style of play. Her serve is a good weapon, but can sometimes be unreliable due to an occasional wayward ball toss. Her movement and net play were considered to be her weaknesses, however both her movement and net play has improved tremendously last year. She is first up this year but should feel OK on this surface. She likes fast courts and her career best results comes from Birmingham last year where she came through the qualifiers and advanced to the finals where she lost to Hantuchova. She should be full of confidence against Czech clay-court specialist Zakopalova. Klara Zakopalova is an experienced player whose form is disastrous. Her YTD record in 2013 was 27-26 with no major success. Vekic is an extremely talented player and she is a slight favourite for us.
