Analysis

Head-to-head record 0:0

Petra Martic from Croatia will play German qualifier Annika Beck in the first round. Petra Martic is an experienced player who is however unpredictable. She is capable of spectacular shotmaking especially with her outstanding backhand and clever dropshots. However, her current form is not ideal. She has a YTD record of 8-7 this season but hasn’t defeated any top opponent. German prodigy, on the other hand, plays in a great form this season. She is a very talented youngster who likes an offensive baseline play. Her game relies heavily on the power, depth and placement of her forehand strokes, producing lots of winners through penetrating, flat shots, with the occasional spice of topspin. She has a good but inconsistent serve and the mental condition is probably her weakest point. She is still very young and we think there is a good future ahead of her. Her YTD record is 18-4 and she came through the qualifiers here. We don’t think she is the underdog here.
