Analysis

Head-to-head record 7:0

Francesca Schiavone of Italy will face her Nemesis Venus Williams for the eight times in her career and believe or not, she hasn’t beaten her yet. Head-to-head record 7-0 is totally one sided but the difference between these two players is definitely not so big in this tournament.

Schiavone is an experienced player who is currently on her career highest position after her stellar run at Roland Garros. Italian employs an all court game, similar to Justine Henin. She regularly slices her one-handed backhand and finds her way to the net and finishes off the point. She also has a strong forehand and dictates with that wing. Schiavone serve is also fairly good even if she is a relatively small player. Her run here is brilliant – he defeated Morita (6-1, 6-0), Camerin (6-2, 6-1), A.Bondarenko (6-1, 7-5) and Pavlyuchenkova (6-3, 6-0).

She will play older Williams sister today. Venus is one of the most powerful baseliners on tour, equipped with an attacking all-court game. Her game is very well adapted to hard courts, she has developed into a skillful volleyer and effectively utilizes her long 'wingspan' and agility around the net. Williams also has great court coverage using her long reach to play balls that most players would not be able to reach and is capable of hitting outright winners from a defensive position. But Francesca is not to easy to defeat here. We expect a tight match and anything above 2.7 is worth taking for us.
