| Analysis | Head-to-head record 0:0 Indian hot gun Somdev Devvarman will play Spanish clay court specialist David Ferrer in quarters. Indian player has been impressive at the tournament so far and we had this match a lot closer than what bookies have come up with. Devvarman is a two-time NCAA Men's Singles Champion. His biggest success on ATP comes from Chennai. In January 2009, he caused major upsets against two-time Chennai Open former champion and world number 42 Carlos Moya of Spain and 25th ranked Ivo Karlovic of Croatia to storm into semi-finals of Chennai Open ATP tournament. His YTD results are not that admirable but he has been impressive in previous rounds here beating both Mallisse and Alves comfortably and has actually nothing to lose against Spaniard. Ferrer is especially known for his fighting spirit and unwillingness to concede defeat. He is known as a particularly dangerous clay court player, though he has had several respectable results on hard courts as well. He is an experienced player who broke into the top 10 in the ATP Tour singles rankings for the first time in 2006. His highest ranking to date is World No. 4, which he reached in 2008. However, he has been struggling a bit since that time and his latest results are unconvincing. He played relatively easy opponents K.Beck and Prpic and especially the second match was much closer that it appears when you look at the scoreline. Prpic had many break points and eventually lost by only 5 balls in total. We are not saying that Devvarman must win but his odds are too high for us. |
