Analysis

Head-to-head record 2:1

Big serving Croat Marin Cilic will face Fernando Verdasco in the third round. Verdasco still holds the ATP Final place but he hasn’t been convincing in the previous round against Seppi. He will now face much more dangerous opponent - as we said many times, Cilic is a great talent of current tennis world and just like other Croatian players he feels best on fast surfaces and likes playing indoor. Tall and powerfully built, he is noted for his strong serve and has achieved his best results in indoor tournaments. He uses one-handed backhand and often plays from the baseline. Verdasco, on the other hand, is an offensive baseliner who is comfortable on all surfaces, with fast hard courts being his best. He considers his best shot to be his forehand. His serve is characteristic of a left-handed player predominantly using slice to create a lot of spin, and is capable of speeds exceeding 210 km/h. He has been known for making mistakes during important moments in matches and sometimes losing concentration, but has been showing improvement in this area. He is having career best season this year but his opponent has pretty good record too. Although Cilic is not playing for ATP Final spot, we expect him to fight and he should be able to defeat Spaniard. Anything about 2.1 is fine here.
