| Analysis | Head-to-head record 2:2 Juan Carlos Ferrero will play his fellow countryman Fernando Verdasco in the second round. Verdasco is an offensive baseliner who is comfortable on all surfaces, with fast hard courts being his best. He considers his best shot to be his forehand. His serve is characteristic of a left-handed player predominantly using slice to create a lot of spin, and is capable of speeds exceeding 210 km/h. He has been known for making mistakes during important moments in matches and sometimes losing concentration, but has been showing improvement in this area. He is having career best season this year but his opponent has pretty good record too. Although Ferrero was known as one of the best clay court players during his prime, he has distinguished himself as an all-court and all-round player through his solid performance on hard court tournaments. He actually said during an interview that he prefers to play on hard courts. Tennis experts agreed that Ferrero's clay court game translated well to the hard court due to his aggressive style of playing. He also has one of the greatest forehands in the game and immense speed on the court. He beat Verdasco in their only hardcourt meeting in Beijing last year. He played well in the first round against Almagro and should be high on confidence at the moment. Ferrero has nothing to lose and we don’t think he should be such a big dog against a bit tired Verdasco. Odds above 2.8 can be taken here. |
