| Analysis | Head-to-head record 0:6 Now or never – here comes another chance for Spaniard Feliciano Lopez to beat his Nemesis, Finn Jarkko Nieminen. He is 0-6 down but this is the record which doesn’t reflect the true potential of both players. Like many of the top Spanish players Lopez is left-handed, however unlike some of his compatriots he uses a single-handed backhand. Once during a Davis Cup match when Spain played the U.S., Jimmy Arias a commentator said that, "Lopez may have the weakest backhand of any top 50 player I've ever seen, maybe with the exception of Fernando Vicente". He will usually slice his backhand instead of opting for the topspin drive. He is known for his strong serve and ability to play balls repetitively on the baseline. He is also a confident net player and has been known to adopt the serve-and-volley routine of play during matches. He is a versatile player who plays well on all surfaces but he sometimes lacks consistency and he is not a typical fighting bull like his compatriots Nadal od Verdasco. On the other hand, he has a big potential and if he catch the first few games, he is definitely able to pay back to Nieminen today. Spanish player should be a bigger favourite in our eyes as Nieminen is coming off some bad streak. He began the season in excellent shape beating Djokovic and playing the final in Sydney but his current form isn’t optimal. He has been struggling lately and noted some devastating losses. His self-confidence must be at zero point. He is a versatile player with relatively week serve but solid hits from both sides and his movement and backcourt game are also above average. However, we are not sure about his mental condition and it could be really tough for him today. We will side with Lopez today and odds above 1.85 are worth taking for us. |
