| Analysis | Head-to-head record 5:2 Former World no.1 Amelie Mauresmo will face experienced Australian player Samatha Stosur in round 16 at Sony Ericsson Open. Both players remember better times but we´ll stand with Aussie player today. Stosur, an accomplished doubles player, has developed a serve-and-volley style of play. Her right-handed forehand groundstrokes, hit with heavy spin, are considered her best, as evidenced by her often choosing to hit inside-out forehands; still, Stosur plays the ad court in doubles. She is also noted for her athleticism. Stosur's first serve, however erratic, reaches more than 180 km/h on regular basis. Nonetheless, it is her second, a high bouncing kick serve that is usually highly rated by media and players alike. Her favorite surface is the hard court and she feels great in Miami. She has a stellar form here in Miami. Stosur won her opening round match against Swede Sofia Arvidsson 6:1 2:0 Ret'd, then defeated Austrian seed Sybille Bammer in the second round 6:1, 6:1. In the third round Stosur demolished another seed Dinara Safina 6:1, 6:4. She is 2-5 down against Mauresmo but won the last two meetings and we believe she could be confident enough for today´s clash. Mauresmo is far behind her best. She is well known for her powerful one-handed backhand and her strong net play. However, her YTD results aren´t convincing and she has struggled here in the first two matches beating both Rybarikova and Pennetta in 3 sets. Stosur is a slight favourite for us and anything above 2 is good enough for us. |
