Analysis

Head-to-head record 1:0

Promising US talent Ryan Sweeting will play experienced Gilles Muller in the opening round at Delray. Sweeting has a stellar form this year with YTD record of 14 wins – 3 losses. He was a successful junior winning the U.S. Open boys' singles title in 2005, beating Jeremy Chardy in the final. He made his professional U.S. Open debut in 2006 where he defeated Argentine Guillermo Coria in the first round before losing to Belgian Oliver Rochus despite leading in two sets. He turned professional in 2007. Sweeting won the Rimouski Challenger in Canada in November 2008 for his first ProCircuit singles title, beating Kristian Pless in the finals. He finished 2008 ranked 216 in the ATP World Rankings. In January 2009, Sweeting reached the semifinals in the Noumea Challenger, losing to Florian Mayer. He captured the Dallas Challenger singles title in February 2009, without dropping a set all tournament. He then added several other good results including the qualifying matches here and he definitely has his chance against Gilles Muller. Muller currently has the average. He started well on Australian soil and beat Spaniard Feliciano Lopez by a score of 6–3, 7–6, 4–6, 4–6, 16–14 in an epic 4h24m long match in the first round of the 2009 Australian Open. In the second round of the tournament he beat local favorite Bernard Tomic to be defeated by Juan Martin del Potro in the third round. However, he has lost to Nishikori and Greul since Aussie Open and his current form is not the best. In form playing Sweeting could be dangerous today and we expect a tight match where just a few balls might decide. Odds around 1.8 are worth taking for us.
