Analysis

Head-to-head record 3:1

Tathiana Garbin, an experienced Italian player will play Melinda Czink of Hungary. Garbin is a solid player but she had a nightmare season last year. On WTA circuit, she only twice got past the second round and finished the season with the overall record of 28 wins-24 losses. She dropped out of top 50 last year and she hasn’t showed significant improvement this year. Last week, she was easily eliminated by Bartoli in the third round. She is probably best known for her shocking defeat of the defending champion and the then-world number one Justine Henin in the second round of the French Open in 2004. On May 21, 2007 Garbin reached her career-high singles ranking: World No. 22. But she has always been a clay court specialist who reached the best results on dirt. Her opponent will be Melinda Czink of Hungary. She has always been considered to be a talented player but unfortunately hasn’t been consistent during her career. She has reached 1 WTA Tour singles final: 2005 Canberra (lost to Ana Ivanovic). On the ITF Tour, she has won an incredible 18 singles titles but she has been struggling with injuries too often. However, at the beginning of 2009, she looks just perfect. She has a record of 7 wins -1 loss and her performance in qualifiers was simply said errorless. She defeated Tatishvili, Poutchek and Gallovits without any problems and we think she should be able to eliminate elderly opponent. Anything above 2 are good enough for us.
