Analysis

Head-to-head record 0:0

Spanish clay court player Marcel Granollers is the next opponent of the first round sensation from Germany. Andreas Beck has demolished Roko Karanusic and we were really impressed by the stellar performance he showed. Last year wasn’t the great one for Beck but he still showed some decent signs of potential and improved his ranking by almost 100 places. In June, Beck qualified into the 2008 Wimbledon. In the first round match he played World No.2 Rafael Nadal on Centre Court and even if lost in straight sets, it was a great match and Beck was one of the biggest hurdles on Nadal´s way to the top. He then continued to play both challengers and ATP event with alternate successes. 2008 saw Grannolers Pujol qualify for the 2008 Australian Open Singles Draw, but lost to Evgeny Korolev 7–5, 6–2, 6–0 in the first round. He reached the quarterfinals of the 2008 Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco. On April 20th, he won his first ATP singles title at the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships, defeating James Blake in the final. Following Rafael Nadal's announcement that he would not play the Davis Cup Final at Argentina in November, Spain's Captain Emilio Sanchez announced that Marcel Granollers would replace Nadal. This was Granollers' first Davis Cup appearance. He prefers the clay courts and even if the 2008 year was a good year for him, we don’t think he has a potential to make it any further. Andreas Beck will be a tough opponent for Spaniard and if he manages to repeat the first round performance, he has a solid chance to succeed.
