| Analysis | Head-to-head record 5:1 Very interesting final comes up in Doha Masters Cup. Russian outsider Vera Zvonareva will face the older Williams sister Venus. Zvonareva had been considered to be a huge underdog before the tournament started but she plays in a career best form here and her stellar performance resulted in a record of 4 wins -0 losses so far. She has qualified for the year-end-championships for the second time in her career. In order to accrue enough points to qualify, she had played seven consecutive weeks after the US Open. Commenting on this, she said, "There were a lot of girls who wanted to get into the Championships, and at the end of the day I got to where I wanted to be." But now she probably got further than she could ever dream about. In her first round robin match, she won against compatriot Svetlana Kuznetsova 6–2, 6–3. Zvonareva then won the next round robin match against Ana Ivanovic 6–3, 6–7, 6–4. Vera swept her round robin match in the white group with a final score of 3–0 beating the World No.1 Jelena Jankovic with 2–6, 6–3, 6–4. She added one more great performance against Dementieva in quarters and has nothing to lose in the final. She will play experienced Venus Williams for the sixth time in her career and we think that her odds don’t reflect the current form of both players. Anything around 3 is good enough for us. |
