| Analysis | Head-to-head record 0:0 Thiery Ascione of France will challenge Russian Dmitry Tursunov in the opening round in Metz. Ascione´s YTD record isn´t impressive but he has always played 100% percent better tennis on home tournaments. He is a relatively unknown player but deserves his spot in the top 100 for sure. He is able to compete on all surfaces and even when his best results come from clay, he has already shown some good appearances on faster surfaces as well (he has won the hard court challenger in Cherbourg this year). He has a solid serve and pretty good baseline play. Sometimes he lacks the power of shots and his movement is limited though but we still think he shouldn’t be such a big underdog in the match against Tursunov. Tursunov is an offensive baseliner with excellent groundstrokes from both sides and prefers to play on faster surfaces. He jokes about his lack of ability and success on clay courts. Anyway, he hasn´t played a single match since US Open and we like the chances of French qualifier here. Ascione played well in quallies and odds above 4.5 can be tried for the lowest stake possible. |
