Analysis

Head-to-head record 0:0

Spanish qualifier Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo will play Romanian hope Victor Crivoi in the opening round. Ramirez Hidalgo is a better ranked player with more experience than his Romanian opponent. Ramirez is a pure clay court player who reached all his best results on dirt. At the 2006 French Open, Ramirez Hidalgo reached the 4th round in a Grand Slam event for the first time in his career. Before the tournament, he lost four consecutive times in the first round of a Grand Slam. At the 2008 Monte Carlo Masters, Hidalgo almost defeated World No.1 Roger Federer. Hidalgo lost the first set 6-1, but won the second when Federer lost his serve and won it 6-3 and in the final deciding set he was leading 1-5 up and 30-15 but lost his serve and eventually the set and match. The final score 6-1, 3-6, 7-6. This was probably the most remarkable match Ramirez has ever played. He hasn’t repeated such a great performance since that time but he still keeps the solid clay court level and proved that in qualifiers here. His opponent Victor Crivoi is relatively unknown player who plays mainly on challenger circuit. He can be dangerous infront of his home crowd but we still think that Ramirez is a better player and odds at this level are worth taking for us.
