| Analysis | Head-to-head record 2:0 Feliciano Lopez of Spain will face Robert Kendrick in the first round of Washington ATP tournament. Like many of the top Spanish players Lopez is left-handed, however unlike some of his compatriots he uses a single-handed backhand. He is known for his strong serve and ability to play balls repetitively on the baseline. He is also a confident net player and has been known to adopt the serve-and-volley routine of play during matches. Simply said, he is untypical Spaniard with the style of play suited to faster surfaces than clay. Robert Kendrick has been called a "serve and volley" player by some. Kendrick's main strengths are his serve and his forehand. He is a typical US player who likes fast surfaces and enjoys offensive battles. May be a surprising pick from us as we have praised Feliciano Lopez several times but the reason is simple – Feliciano is totally out of form (he lost to Gremelmayr in Los Angeles and to Seppi in Cincinatti) and Kendrick’s odds shouldn’t be so long. |
