| Analysis | Head-to-head record 1:0 To date Robredo's current season has not been as successful as the previous two; he did not put together more than two back-to-back victories until the start of the European clay season in April, and his multiple losses to lower ranked players include his earliest loss at the French Open since 2002. However, he has managed to make the finals of the Warsaw Open, the semifinals of the Valencia event, and the quarterfinals at Barcelona. His best result in Master Series tournaments this season is a quarterfinal appearance at the Rome Masters. Robredo won his first title of the year at the Swedish Open in Bastad, beating Tomáš Berdych in the final. This was his second Bastad title. However, all these results were reached on clay. He will now face Croatian youngster and very promising player – Marin Cilic. So far in 2008, Cilic has reached the semi-finals in the Chennai Open in both singles and doubles. Cilic then made it to the 4th round of the Australian Open 2008, taking out 2 seeds on his way, including 2007 Australian Open finalist Fernando Gonzalez. He also made it to the 4th round of Wimbledon, beating Jarkko Nieminen in the 2nd round and knocking off the fourteenth seed Paul-Henri Mathieu. All together, he has a solid season and feels well on fast surfaces. His game is based on a good serve and his playing style is aggressive. If he plays his best tennis, he should be able to overplay Robredo on hard court. Odds above 2 are interesting enough. |
