Analysis

Head-to-head record 0:0

The last of the old school Mohicans in the top 100, Swedish Thomas Johansson will play Andrey Golubev who advanced to the main event from qualifiers. Thomas Johansson also played quallies here but he entered the main draw as a lucky looser after being defeated by his fellow countryman Jonas Bjorkman. Johansson joined the pro tour for the first time in 1993 and has won 9 top-level singles titles and 1 doubles title, including the 1999 Canada Masters and the 2002 Australian Open Grand Slam championship. Johansson would later reach his career high ranking of World No. 7 in 2002. There are no doubts he is an experienced player who had a great tennis career but his best years are over. The Swede has been struggling during the last years and his recent results aren´t impressive. Even if the hard court is his favourite surface and he played well at Canadian Masters in past, we don´t think he will be able to repeat his successes. His qualifying performances were at least questionable – he defeated Philip Bester in the first round but his opponent is currently in the 9th hundred of ATP ranking and the match was pretty close. Then he fall to Jonas Bjorkman and advanced as a lucky looser. His opponent defeated King and Bopanna in quallies and should feel well within the conditions here. He is still young but has a potential for further improvements and we just thing that odds above 3 don´t reflect the true reality here.
