Analysis

Head-to-head record 2:1

Robie Ginepri is going to meet Paul Henri Mathieu in the first round at Canadian Maters. Ginepri is the player that we admired a lot for his confidence, offensive style of play and fighting spirit. However, he has been struggling lately and drop out of top 100 which is the rank that doesn’t correspond to the player of his class. Ginepri adopts an offensive baseline strategy which he achieves through his aggressive powerful forehands. He possesses very strong forehand with powerful service returns. Apart from this shot, he possesses a relatively reliable two-handed backhand and his serve is also pretty solid. 2007 was a nightmare season for him. He slipped to No. 171 after this year's Australian Open, where he failed to qualify for the main draw. But then he reached back-to-back semifinals in his two main-draw appearances this season and got back on the top scene. He plays his best on US hard courts and should feel well on this surface. His last week´s blow out should be forgotten after the week of practice in Canada and we hope he will confirm that he prevails in terms of match practice on hard courts over his opponent. It will be Paul Henri Mathieu of France who is known for being able to hit heavy groundstrokes from both wings and his topspin forehand is probably his biggest weapon. He is a relatively popular and well-liked player despite his inconsistent career results. His favourite surfaces are clay and hard. But he played on clay last week and will need to adapt to the new surface. Mainly thanks to his inconsistency, we see a slight value on Ginepri´s side. We expect this match to be a tight battle and see the 50:50 chances on both sides.
