| Analysis | Head-to-head record 1:0 Promising French talent Jeremy Chardy will face experienced ATP veteran Luis Horna from Peru. Young Frenchman is expected to follow his stellar performance from French Open. After beating Frederico Gil and David Nalbandian at the 2008 French Open, he beats Dmitry Tursunov in the third round. However he lost in the following round in three tight sets, 7-6 7-6 7-5, to Spaniard Nicholas Almagro. Regardless, Chardy produced his best Grand Slam showing so far in his professional career. He is more than solid claycourter and the big hope of French tennis. He is an offensive baseliner with great serve and aggressive and powerful strokes from the both wings. His movement could be better though. He currently plays in a good shape and came through the qualifiers here beating 2 home players, both in straight sets. He will face Luis Horna in the opening round. Horna plays right-handed, he has a strong serve for a relatively short player and the forehand is his best stroke. He uses a single-handed backhand and his favourite surface is clay. However, he is an inconsistent player who is capable to defeat top class opponents as well as be defeated by lower ranked underdogs. This year, he managed to defeat the players such as Gasquet, Monaco, Calleri or Acasuso but at the same time, he lost to lower ranked Gil or Arnaboldi. We think that in-form playing qualifier will be a hard nut to crack for Horna and odds above 2.1 could be taken in this case. |
