| Analysis | Head-to-head record 0:0 Frenchman Eric Prodon will face Michael Berrer of Germany in the opening round. Prodon was a very successful junior but had a lot of injury problems during his career. However, he was injury-free and made some progress in early 2008. He started the year winning a Challenger in Miami. Then he tried and failed to qualify into 3 consecutive ATP stops in Brazil, Argentina and Mexico, losing to Oscar Hernandez, Nicolas Lapentti, and Daniel Gimeno-Traver. He struggle in his return to Challengers in March and April, winning just 1 of 4 matches but he regained his form again, reaching two Challenger finals and a semifinal in April and May. That got his ranking to a career-high. Prodon had a long career in Juniors, playing from 1997 to 1999 and reaching year-end #28 in 1998. In matches against future top pros, he beat Mikhail Youzhny, Julien Benneteau, Roger Federer, Karol Beck, Guillermo Coria or Tommy Robredo. He has a good potential and solid form right now. He spent the whole year on clay so he should be accommodated well to this surface. His opponent will be home player Michael Berrer. He is now on a 6 matches losing streak and furthermore, clay is not his favourite surface. Even if he plays in front of his home crowd, we will go with better form and support Eric Prodon in this match. He should be a slight favourite and odds around 2 can be taken. |
