Analysis

Head-to-head record 2:0

Robredo's 2008 season got off to a disappointing start as he lost both of his opening round matches in the first two tournaments he entered. At the Qatar Open in Doha he was seeded second but lost to Argentine Agustin Calleri. Then he was defeated by Radek Stepanek at Sydney, Australia. At the Australian Open he lost in the second round to American Mardy Fish in straight sets, 1-6, 2-6, 3-6. He then suffered early loses at his next three tournaments to much lower ranked opponents. He was defeated by Frenchman, Nicolas Mahut in the first round in Rotterdam. Then at the ATP Masters Series event in Indian Wells, he was defeated in the third round by Croatian Ivan Ljubicic. He was then ousted in the first round of the ATP Masters Series event in Miami, Florida by Israel's Dudi Sela. His hard court season was everything but not satisfying. The clay court season brought better results for Robredo but he is now coming to grass without any match practice on this surface. He will play Kristof Vliegen of Belgium who prefers fast surfaces and his style of play is based on a solid serve. He has a much better serve and more powerful shots than his Spanish opponent and he could take the advantage of fast condition and keep the match close if everything goes fine for him. The met once on grass and Robredo won in 2:1. Yes, Spaniard is a favourite for this match but Vliegen´s odds are just too high.
