| Analysis | Head-to-head record 0:0 Within the normal conditions, Baker would be somewhere around 1.4 here. Galvani has never been a top player and his career seems to be drawing to an end. On August in 2002, Galvani achieved his career-high singles ranking of World No. 104 and his qualifying round is really surprising for us. We don´t think he will be able to continue this way and his opponent´s odds are good enough for us. Jamie Baker made a positive start to 2008 by qualifying for the Australian Open doing it in confident style. He disposed of 9th seed (Q) Yuri Shukin and then battling past Alexander Peya to reach the final round where he defeated Daniel Kollerer. Though he was defeated in the first round by Ivo Karlovic, his result of 6–4 6–4 6–7 6–4 was described as highly creditable. Baker later played in his first 'live' Davis Cup rubber in the World Group match against Argentina. Though he lost the opener to David Nalbandian, he gained his first Davis Cup win by beating Agustin Calleri in the final tie of the match. Following the Davis Cup, Jamie won 2 consecutive titles in Futures Tournaments in Brownsville and Harlingen. Baker contracted Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura in April 2008, and had to spend three days in intensive care. Fellow Scot Jamie Murray noted that he was lucky to be alive. Baker had been likely to miss Wimbledon as a result but has been granted a wildcard for the tournament. His health problems are probably the cause why Baker is considered to be an underdog but we think he is much better player than his opponent and anything above 2 must be taken. |
