| Analysis | Head-to-head record 0:0 American Giant John Isner will play experienced Czech veteran Radek Stepanek in the opening round. Isner is known for his booming serve which is attributed, at least in part, to his height. Commentators have also praised his composure during matches, as displayed during his five consecutive 3rd-set tiebreaker wins in Washington, which were marked by his ability to bring out huge serves when it mattered most. Additionally he is known to back up his huge serves with approaches to the net, though he does not strictly serve and volley. Isner has been compared to Croatian Ivo Karlovic. Both are said to possess the best serves in tennis. Thus it will be almost impossible to break his serve on grass here and we expect a very tight match. His opponent will be experienced Czech Radek Stepanek. He is the player we admire for his ability to fight against adversities. His career was disrupted several times due to long lasting injuries but he always managed to get back to his previous level. On the other hand, he wasn’t as talented as other top tennis players and he was always known for the hard work and drill he experienced on his way to the top 10. He can be rated as an offensive baseliner and sometimes uses the serve-and-volley style of play. Even if it is said he is a versatile player, his style play is most suited to fast surfaces. Both players like the fast conditions here and we expect the match that will be decided in breakers again. It will be about the luck and we are happy to support underdog at the odds above 3. |
