Analysis

Head-to-head record 1:0

To date Robredo's current season has not been as successful as the previous two. He did not put together more than two back-to-back victories until the start of the European clay season in April, and his multiple losses to lower ranked players include his earliest loss at the French Open since 2002. However, he has managed to make the semifinals of the Valencia event and the quarterfinals at Barcelona. His best result in Master Series tournaments this season is a quarterfinal appearance at the Rome Masters. But he still hasn´t defeated any world class opponent in fact and was pretty lucky with the opponents here in Warsaw as well. Robredo has had some significant doubles success this season, teaming up with compatriot Rafael Nadal to win his first doubles titles in four years by beating Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles at the Monte Carlo Masters. He also reached the semifinals of the Hamburg Masters with Leander Paes. Bhupathi, Knowles, and Paes are all former world number one doubles players. But his singles performances still remain far behind expectations and we just think that Monaco currently plays in a better shape. He is typical South-American claycourter with everything he needs to play on the slowest surface. Good movement and fitness are his biggest weapons. His play is not so agressive and often slows the game down by long dropshots. He prefers clay and rarely plays on other surfaces. His YTD clay court record is 16:7 and most of his losses came from the match against world class clay-courters such as Almagro or Davydenko. His biggest weakness is mental inconsistency but if he keeps hi nerves, he should be able to make the spot in finals. Odds above 1.8 can be taken here.
