| Analysis | Head-to-head record 3:0 Wawrinka is coming off a couple of tough weeks in Barcelona and Rome and we think he will have more work against Spaniard today than bookies expect. Alberto Martin is typical Spanish clay court player who adopted defensive baseline style of play. He came through the qualifiers here and showed some good form. He has consistent shots, makes few errors of his own while making it difficult for opponents to hit winners. He has speed and agility to cover the court. Martin is a fighter, and has willingness to chase down every ball to frustrate opponents. His solid passing shots are worth mentioning as well and it is not surprising that he excels on slow courts. On the other hand Wawrinka is aggressive baseliner who prefers fast surfaces and his latest run in Rome was a bit surprising. He played in a great shape there but the new tournament begins and his first round opponent won´t be easy. Wawrinka tries to win the point by hitting winners from the back of the court, attacking with fast balls that the opponent cannot reach or return properly. Wawrinka has the ability to read the game very well and also their opponents styles and tendencies so that he can spot a weakness and use one of their aggressive shots to act upon it. Even if we were impressed by his latest performances, we still think he doesn’t play his best on this kind of surface and Spanish fighter has his chance today. Odds above 3.5 are worth taking here. |
