Analysis

Germany Davis Cup team will face Spaniards in the battle for semifinal spot. These two nations already met 13 times previously with Germany holding a 9-4 lead, although Spain has won two of the last three meetings. The Spanish team is not surprisingly the favourite for this clash but what surprised us a lot are the lines that are set by bookies. We don´t think Germany is such a big underdog on the home soil. The opening match will be Kiefer-Nadal and even if Nadal defeated Kiwi easily few days ago on US hard courts, we don´t think this is going to be the same match. Nadal is not playing at his best and is unreliable this season. He is able to play great matches one day and totally burn out on the second day. Kiefer will surely have the chance and if he manages to serve his bets, the match could be closer than it appears at the first sight. The second match between Ferrer and Kohlschreiber is very interesting as well. Both players started the season in excellent shape but have been struggling in their latest matches. The fast indoor surface is the advantage for Kohlschreiber without any doubts and we believe he can be more than competitive against Spanish clay courter here. According to the official line-up, Kohlschreiber and Petzschner should face Verdasco/Lopez in Saturday´s doubles and it wouldn´t be surprising if Germans win 2:1 after the first two days. They are surely able to take the one point on Sunday as well and we just don´t think their odds should be above 3.0. That is why our pick is ´Germany to advance´.
