Analysis

Head-to-head record 0:0

Petra Kvitova, the Czech qualifier will face Kaia Kanepi of Estonia in the first round at Miami Sony Ericsson Open. We have already praised Kvitova. She is the big hope of Czech tennis and the biggest young talent ever since Nicole Vaidisova has appeared. She is just 17 years old but already managed to defeat some of the top players such as Venus Williams or Medina and kept it tight against Dementieva. Her career record of 66 wins-19 losses is really impressive. Of course, she has been gaining experience at small ITF tournaments so far but we think her time is coming and she is definitely able to crack into the top 100 soon. She played in a good shape in qualifiers defeating Salerni and Hendler. Kvitova has everything she needs to become a top player – speed, power, confidence and solid technique. She is a tall and aggressive player who feels well on fast surfaces. Her opponent will be Kaia Kanepi, who is a solid hard-courter as well. Her YTD record isn´t bad but we still think that Kvitova is capable of defeating her. Kanepi has made some good results on clay this year but was destroyed by Pennetta in the second round at Indian Wells last week and her self-confidence won´t be ideal today. Kvitove above 1.8 can be tried here.
