Analysis

Head-to-head record 2:0 (Pinnacle odds 1.714)

Anastasia Rodionova is having a disastrous season this year. Her YTD record is 1-5 and all of her losses were brutal. She is an average player whose main weakness is mental condition. She was considered to be a big talent of Russian tennis having won 2000 Russian Championships 18s in singles and doubles but haven´t met these expectations yet. Last year, she became only the second player in WTA Tour history to be disqualified from a match when she launched a ball at supporters during Cincinnati's Open. She reached her second WTA Tour semifinal at Guangzhou in September. It was her first appearance of this level in five years but she has been struggling since then again. As of 2008 she is representing Australian tennis but her results remain poor indeed. She will play Tiantian Sun of China. She is also nit playing at her best but advanced from qualifiers and should be well prepared for this match. She has a positive head-to-head record against Rodionova demolishing her Russian opponent in both cases. In January, Sun captured her first Grand Slam title when she won the Australian Open mixed doubles crown, partnering with Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia. But her biggest success comes from 2005 when she destroyed Serena Williams in Being to become one of only two active players (with Bammer) to have a winning record against younger Williams sister. These years are over but Sun is still playing in better shape than her opponent and should be competitive tonight.
