| Analysis | Head-to-head record 0:0 This is going to be a battle of generations. Young Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci will play Austrian veteran Werner Eschauer. Eschauer has has a long career which is going to be over soon. In his first 12 years as a pro, he found very little success, winning just 7 ATP matches and cracking the top-100 for just a few weeks in 2003. Last year, at the age of 33, Eschauer cracked the top 100 again and reached the career high rank of 53 in the world. He won 7 ATP-level matches in 2007. He achieved 4 of these wins at the Dutch Open in July to reach his first ATP final, including a win over Carlos Moya in the quarters. He lost to Steve Darcis in the finals. His most notable match was playing Rafael Nadal on Centre Court at Wimbledon in the 2nd round last year. But he has never been a world-beater and even when he has a good season last year, we don´t believe he can manage to continue this way. The very last match he played was in Davis Cup where he lost on clay to American double-specialist Bob Bryan. His opponent will be Brazilian rising star, Thomaz Bellucci. He is a typical South-American player who loves clay. He was impressive in qualifiers even when he hasn’t had a friendly draw – he defeated three solid clay-courters Andujar, M.Lopez and Junqueira. He is currently in a better form than his Austrian opponent and anything above 1.7 can be taken here. |
