Analysis

Head-to-head record 0:0

Sara Errani of Italy will face French qualifier Olivia Sanchez in the first round at 2008 Cachantun Cup. Both of these players have the similar style of play which is well suited to slow surfaces so both of them feel good on clay. Errani is more experienced and better ranked player who hasn’t had a bad season so far. She reached quarterfinals at Auckland where she defeated Krajicek and Parmentier and lost to eventual champion Davenport. Then she fell in Sydney qualifying round and in the first round at Australian Open to Davenport again having led 4-2 in the third set. Her YTD record is 3-3 but she played all of her matches on hard courts. Sanchez has never cracked into top 100 so far but she already made some good results against higher ranked players. But the main reason for this pick is her impressive performances in qualifiers in Vina del Mar. She has won all 3 matches in straight sets not having lost more than 3 games in a set. If she manage to keep this level, she has a decent chance of breaking through to the second round here. Errani is going to be a hard nut to be cracked but odds above 2.5 are worth trying at least for a small stake.
