| Analysis | Head-to-head record 1:2 This is going to be a match between Romanian qualifier Edina Gallovits and Belarusian prodigy Olga Govortsova. Gallovits is a solid young player with wide scale of weapons. She is playing in a great shape here in Hobart (beating Voracova, Sun, Salerni and Brianti all without losing a single set). She has a versatile, all-court playing style and can hit all the fundamental shots to a pretty high level of technical proficiency. She is currently close to her career high ranking which she achieved on June 18, 2007. She achieved her best Grand Slam performance at the 2007 French Open by making the second round. In juniors, she reached a career high of No. 7 and made the final of the prestigious Orange Bowl Championships, losing to Vera Zvonareva. In June 2007, she made a fantastic run to the final of the inaugral Barcelona KIA event. All together, she is more experience and more consistent player than her opponent. Govortsova is younger, higher ranked but very inconsistent player who can be beaten by anyone. After a few WTA-level events and never winning a match, she made back to back quarterfinals at Cincinnati and Stanford, where she beat Shahar Peer for the best win of her career. But she struggled to continue this way and instead she got back to her performances from the beginning of the year losing several matches to weak opponents outside the top 100. Olga is an offensive baseliner. Her game relies heavily on the power, depth and placement of her forehand strokes, producing lots of winners through penetrating, flat shots, with the occasional spice of topspin. She has a huge but inconsistent serve and the mental condition is probably her weakest point. This could be a tight match but Gallovits has a better current form and odds around 2.0 are worth trying for a small stake. |
