He had a stellar season which enabled him to gain closer on Rafael Nadal in the ATP Tour Rankings. However, the end of his season was a bit confusing. He returned after a minor injury to Vienna, to beat Stanislas Wawrinka in the final 6-4, 6-0 and take his 5th title of the year. Djokovic's next tournament was the Madrid Masters, where he lost to David Nalbandian 6-4, 7-6 in the semifinals, an improvement on the previous years finish. At the Paris Masters, he was upset by Frenchman Fabrice Santoro 6-2, 6-3 in the first round. His style of play is suited to all surfaces and we can rate him as an all-court player. He has great groundstrokes, especially forehand which is powerful, deep, well angled, and hit with strong topspin. With excellent speed, serve is one of his major weapon. Djokovic, on the other hand, while very sound and powerful from the baseline, often finishes points by coming to the net. He also includes a slice backhand in his shot repertoire. David Ferrer of Spain is one of the best baseliners nowadays. His playing style is best tailored for clay courts, with a strong two-handed backhand, well-angled topspin strokes, incredibly fast mobility on the court, and a preference to play from the deep court. His serve isn´t as dangerous as Djokovic´s one due to his lowness but he is extremely athletic, and tends to go after every shot, even apparent winners from his opponents. He is more experienced than his opponent and we would say his results are more stable. We are not saying tha he should be a favourite but recent odds are just too high for us. We think that Ferrer´s odds above 3.5 are worth trying for a small stake. Djokoivc-Ferrer 4-6,4-6 wager won |
