| Analysis | Head-to-head record 2:3 Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland will play David Nalbandian of Argentina in the opening round. Argentine player, nicknamed Bandy, is a kind of inscrutable man. He often looks disinterested on the courts and has a tendency to relax (especially at times when he is leading) but when he touches his best, it is impossible to beat him. He plays a very aggressive baseline game, although he is capable of playing an all-court style. His main strengths lie in his groundstrokes and return game, and are complemented by his deft accuracy and incredible foot speed. He disposes of solid shots produced from both wings, and because of their depth, pace, and consistency, opponents often have difficulty breaking down one particular side. His most famous shot is two-handed backhand down the line – it is a dangerous weapon and often means a clear winner or results in a poor opponent´s returns. His weakest spot is probably the serve. He enjoys playing big matches against world-class opponents and usually shows his mental fortitude and does his very best in these matches (he has already defeated Federer seven times!!). On the other hand, he often underestimates weaker opponents. Stan Wawrinka is also a player who can play on all surfaces and will surely be competitive today. He has a better serve than Bandy, managed to beat him two in Vienna weeks ago, in Basel last year and possesses positive overall head-to-head record against Nalbandian. He will be supported by the home crowd and odds above 2.5 are worth trying here. |
