| Analysis | Head-to-head record 2:1 Thiery Ascione of France will challenge Serbian no.2 Janko Tipsarevic in the opening round in Lyon. Ascione´s record isn´t impressive but he managed to win home challenger last weak (defeating Acasuso in the finals) and his confidence towards this match should be OK. He is a relatively unknown player but deserves his spot in the top 100 for sure. He is able to compete on all surfaces and even when his best results come from clay, he has already shown some good appearances on faster surfaces as well. He has a solid serve and pretty good baseline play. Sometimes he lacks the power of shots and his movement is limited though but we still think he shouldn’t be such a big underdog in the match against Tipsarevic. Serbian has a great record this year and he has been playing well lately but he is still not a world class player and indoors venue isn’t something he would be searching for. He made a good run in Moscow last week but in fact, he plays a very similar style to Ascione and this match should be closer then odds say. Frenchman will be supported by the home crowd and he is at least able to keep this match close. Odds above 2.6 could be taken for a small stake. |
