Analysis

Head-to-head record 1:0

Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine will meet Austrian Sybille Bammer in the first round of Zurich tournament. Bondarenko is a sister of better known Alyona Bondarenko. She turned pro in 2000 and plays aggressive right-handed tennis. Her recent results are impressive and it seems she will catch up her more famous sister soon. On June 11 2007 she achieved her career high singles ranking – world no. 39. She pulled off the biggest win of her tennis career so far at Stuttgart by beating Serbian star Ana Ivanovic to be defeated by Tatiana Golovin in quarters. In qualifiers, she easily defeated Dechy, Nagy and Sugiyama without losing a set. She should be full of confidence at present and we hope she will be able to repeat her impressive Stuttgart´s mission. She will face an experienced Austrian Sybille Bammer who kicked off the year badly but eventually got into the great form and his YTD record is great. Her style of play is well suited to all surfaces but we still think she prefers clay courts and slower hard courts. Her movement is great and even when she is not as aggressive as her opponent, she is definitely able to compete on faster surfaces as well. But the recent form and match practice make us think that Bondarenko can be more than even opponent today. Odds above 2.4 are worth trying for us.
