Analysis

Tommy Haas of Germany will play Juan Monaco of Argentina in Stockholm quarters. Under the normal conditions, we would probably never back Juan Monaco on indoors venue. But we saw him playing at US Open and were really impressed by his play. Especially his match against Djokovic was remarkable one and we must admit he has improved his hard court game by several grades this year. Solid serve, powerful shots and great movement make him a complete player who can be dangerous on all surfaces. Of course, he will play his best on clay for ever but he is now able to compete on hard courts as well. He proved that in first two rounds in Stockholm though he played weaker opponents. Haas is, on the contrary, in a very bad shape at present and his performance against Montanes was far from being excellent. He has been struggling since US Open quarters and we consider his opponent to be a more consistent player with better mental skills. Haas is seen as an intense and emotional player, sometimes having outbursts on the court by muttering at himself or at his coaches, or even off the court. Of course, German´s hard court skills are still much better but we don’t think Monaco should be as big underdog in this match. Odds above 3 can be worth trying with a small stake.
