Analysis

Head-to-head record 0:1

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is considered to be a player with bright future. He has a very successful junior career winning the US Open juniors title in 2003 and reaching the semifinals of the other 3 Grand Slam events. The year 2007 is a breakdown in his career as he cracked to top 100 for the first time and after this tournament, he will probably advance among the top 50. He has won 4 challenger titles this year so far and added great performances at Queens Club, Wimbledon and US Open. He started the year in the third hundred of the official rankings but received a wild card for Australian Open and played unforgettable match against Roddick in the first round. In the first set, he defeated sixth seed American in the longest tiebreak of Australian Open history (20-18) to be eventually beaten 1-3 in a pretty close battle. His style of play is suited to fast surfaces and when he plays his best, it is very difficult to break his serve. ATP players have nicknamed him “Muhammad Ali of tennis” and we think that even better times for him are about to come soon and he can write his name into the tennis history. His opponent will be Andy Murray of Great Britain who is a player of big talent as well. His disadvantage could be his mental fragility. Even when his style of play should be well suited to indoors conditions, he often lacks consistency we don’t think he should be as big favourite as bookies say. Odds at this level are worth taking for us.
