| Analysis | Head-to-head record 1:0 Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia, the former US Open winner, will meet Hungarian prodigy, Agnes Szavay in US Open Quarters. Kuznetsova is an experienced player with pretty good serve and strong all-court game. She has an excellent YTD record of 42-13 and she started to play at her highest level after the constrained beginning of the season. Even when her current results are impressive, she hasn’t avoided some staggers lately. She played 2 tournaments on American soil before US Open and lost to Golovin in quarterfinals in Toronto and won the tournament in New Haven where she defeated Szavay but her performance wasn’t convincing (4:6,3:0 ret.). She also struggled in her US Open matches against Pin (6:3,4:6,6:0) and against Azarenka yesterday (she was 0:2 down in the second set but then Azarenka stopped playing well at all). Szavay is probably the biggest surprise of this season. She has even better YTD record than Kuznetsova (45-12) and even when she played smaller tournaments, she is very confident at the moment and has shown no signs of weakness at US Open so far. She has beaten Kloesel, Krajicek, Petrova and Vakulenko all in straight sets. She has no fear of big names and proofed this in New Haven finals. She was the better player on the court and Kurznetsova became a very lucky winner there. We know Russian player is a favourite but odds around 3.5 are worth taking for us as we don’t think Hungarian baby is as big underdog as odds say. |
