| Analysis | Head-to-head 1:2 Mardy Fish is a typical American player of young generation. He is good at serve, plays attacking tennis and strong forehand shots. He is very self-confident and met a great form lately (played finals in New Haven and destroyed Mexican qualifier in the opening round at Flushing Meadows). Furthermore, he has a positive head to head record with Robredo. Spaniard is a typical baseliner with great movement and technique but he hasn´t been playing in a good shape on American soil this year. He lost to Hrbaty in Montreal (2:6,4:6), Nieminen in Cincy (4:6, 1:6) and Wawrinka in New Haven (3:6, 3:6) and defeated only Gicquel in the second round of New Haven. He outplayed lucky looser Reynolds in the first US Open round but his performance was far from being impressive. He is more experienced and higher ranked player than Mardy Fish but it doesn’t necessarily mean that he is a favourite. We expect a tight battle tonight and think that their odds should be at least equal. We don’t understand why Fish is considered to be an underdog in this match and hope that he will show his best on his home soil. Fast hard court is an advantage for young American and if he plays his best tennis, he will be able to get into the third round. |
