| Analysis | Head-to-head 0:0 This is going to be a very interesting match and we expect a tight battle. Gilles Simon of France is the favourite of this clash but it has to be mentioned that he is very unstable player. He is definitely able to play at the highest level and to defeat top players but his unsteady form and mental condition make him vanquishable by lower-ranked players. Furthermore, he prefers clay and he is always very dangerous especially in France in front of his home crowd. He is very good at long-ralies played from the baseline, has the very quick legs but his serve and power of his shots are far from being world-class. The fast surface at Flushing Meadows should be more convenient to his first round opponent Alexander Waske of Germany. Waske is tall and very experienced double specialist but he is currently in a very good shape and his qualifying performances were impressive. He defeated in turn Crugnola, Rosol and Schwank all in straight sets. All of these players are second-rate clay specialists but we should never underestimate German bomber. He is a very good at net and his biggest weapon is powerful serve. He is usually able to hold his serve which makes him dangerous even for better ranked players with better technique and tennis skills. We agree that Simon should be a favourite here but see the value in his opponent´s odds. That is why we´ll try to back a smaller stake on Waske. |
