| Analysis | Head-to-head 0:0 Alize Cornet of France is one of the biggest talents of women´s tennis nowadays. French teenager won her first grandslam match in Paris at the age of 15. She has continuously been confirming the role of the biggest young hope of France since that time. She got into the top 100 for the first time this year and her YTD record is pretty impressive (33-14). She doesn´t really care which surface she plays on as her style of play is useful on each surface. She won her first match at Wimbledon this year and is keen to at least repeat this success. She took the first step in qualifiers by beating Scheepers, Marrero and Kulikova without losing a single set. Especially the match against Russian prodigy Kulikova was very interesting and it is the most valued victory for her. Her opponent will be very experienced Aussie player - Samantha Stosur. Smash 'em Sam has a poor YTD record of 17-17 and she hasn´t even advanced from the third round at any tournament this year sofar. Well, her hit-or-miss style of play is well suited to the fast surface in New York but the lack of self-confidence and match practice should come to light again (she played just one match since she was defeated by Sequera at Wimbledon). We believe the French young gun will fight bravely for the Flushing Meadows´s second round spot and hope she will make it. |
