Analysis

Head-to-head record 2:0

Davydenko survived Halle opener and achieved his second career win on grass. We have already said a lot about his ability to play on this surface and about his horrific career record on grass (2-11). Well, he defeated Melzer and maybe just banished his fear of this surface by beating the first top player in his entire career and he will keep on improving on this surface but it was more likely Melzer´s fault and we don´t believe that Russian star could change his style of play and preferences from one day to another. Melzer made many unforced errors and he probably lost this match in the tiebreak of the first set - he was 4 balls ahead of Davydenko in this tiebreak leading 5:1 but he still lost this set. Florian Mayer will be supported by the home crowd for sure and it also should be mentioned that he is a very solid grasscourter. He has a very good serve and killing ground-strokes, he playes well on the net and his volleys could be the deciding factor of the upcoming match. Davydenko will try to play from the baseline again and Mayer is definitely capable to beat him if he plays his agressive style. We think that the odds above 2.5 could be taken here.

Final result: 4:6,4:6 - wager won
